His journey began as a young migrant from a former Dutch colony, where he discovered his passion for storytelling through food in the Netherlands. Trained in classic French cuisine, he later returned to his roots—celebrating the bold, soulful flavors of Surinamese-Hindu cuisine. His mantra? Cook with soul, serve with love. Known as the Spicy Chef for his creative use of spices, Soenil launched the Spicy Chef food truck during COVID, parked outside his two-Michelin-starred restaurant, De Lindenhof, in Nuenen. It quickly became a local favorite, especially for his legendary bara with Japanese Wagyu and truffle, and his mother’s beloved roti. Since 2025, he’s owned Restaurant Gem.
